FENCED
2025
Analogue photography, cyanotypes and ceramics
Exhibited at Galleria Toinen Silmä, Helsinki, 2026
FENCED focuses on the vulnerability of human-constructed systems of control and separation, taking wire fences as its central motif. The project brings together black-and-white silver gelatin photographs, cyanotype prints, and glazed ceramic reliefs. The idea originates from repeated encounters with a large, mostly empty fenced private parking lot in Vallila. Both the underused space and its deteriorating wire fence became points of sustained observation and reflection.
Fences form part of the visual fabric of everyday environments: they organise space and assert ownership, yet also may carry visible signs of intervention—cuts, ruptures, and makeshift repairs. Even as they impose boundaries and exclusions, fences disclose the instability of such limits, shaped and gradually eroded by time and material forces.
