A series of selenium-toned gelatin silver prints on matte fibre-based paper

Exhibited at Hauras / Fragile exhibition of the members of the Finnish Darkroom Association, at Galleria Joutsen in October 2026, Salo, FI

The work emerged during my artist residency in Split, Croatia, from an encounter with Marjan Park in the aftermath of a devastating storm, which struck the city in July 2025. The storm was so severe that the damage it caused will take decades to recover from. Drawn to the broken landscape, I sought to capture the park’s uncanny, altered state through black-and-white film photography. These images formed the basis of a series of gelatin silver prints that reflect on the fragility of ecosystems that are being increasingly pushed beyond their breaking points, for example by storms that are intensifying due to climate change. This exhibition presents one half of the works related to the project.

Hauras / Fragile is an exhibition presenting works by members of the Finnish Darkroom Association: Jakub Berkowits, Markku Joutsen, Maya Kubinova, Robert Nordström, Jussi Rinta-Hoiska, Antti Saukko, Alexandra Stroganova and Jukka Vaso. Each participating artist works with different techniques of hand-printed analogue photography, from classic gelatin silver to bromoil. The theme is interpreted and explored differently by each artist. The works approach fragility in various ways, whether through the impermanence of life, the vulnerability of nature, the fragility of human connections, or the fleeting nature of memory and experience. Together, they offer a range of perspectives on the delicate aspects of our existence.

The exhibition is on view 2.10.-31.10.2026 at Galleria Joutsen in Salo, Monday-Thursday 12-17, Friday 12-15 and Saturday 10-14.
